While I agree with you that there is a lot that we don’t know about the effects of vaping, it’s worth noting that a vape cloud is not smoke. Nothing is burned when you vape. The liquid evaporates, which is more comparable to steam than it is to smoke. But there is no combustion, so at least there’s that. But you're absolutely right that we don't know the long term effects.
I don't smoke or vape, I'm just a chemist who is probably a little too pedantic.

Correlation causation.
Teen drug use is down, good! Teen vaping use is up, terrible! The average nicotine intake for a teen consuming nicotine is way up. Many of the popular juice cartridges equate to 3-6 packs of cigarettes each, and high school kids are blowing through multiple a day . I n 25 years, the rates of middle-aged heart disease for that generation are going to be all the news talks about.

Yea, I should have added that to my original post, but I said that in another comment that correlation does not equal causation. That being said, I would bet there is some link between the two.
And, yea, we don’t know all the negative consequences of vaping yet.

Most of those vape pens are filled with some sort of THC or nicotine extract, so drug use isn’t actually down. They’e just consuming it in a much nerdier way.

Point being that with so many dispensaries cropping up, it’s even easier for kids to get someone to get something for them.
Although there were definitely times when I was in high school and college where it was easier to get pot than alcohol.

It was always easier for me to get weed over alcohol in high school because locals are more scared of being arrested for alcohol related crimes compared to marijuana related crimes.
